Gautam Roy

Dr. Roy is a professor (Senior scale) at Dept. of Preventive and Social Medicine, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), Institute of National Importance, Puducherry, India. He received his medical training at JIPMER. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1983 and Doctorate of Medicine in 1988.
Dr. Roy has successfully implemented many community-based research studies contributing to science and carried them forward to publication. Dr. Roy was instrumental in the development of the application for the Indo-U.S. Vaccine Action Program. Since the award, Dr. Roy has taken responsibilities in the conduct, fiscal, and administrative activities of the proposed protocols. He was the site Principal Investigator for the major studies Biomarkers for Risk of TB and for TB Treatment Failure and Relapse funded by Dept. of Biotechnology, New Delhi, India and Common Protocol for Collecting Data and Specimens from Participants in the Regional Prospective Observational Research for Tuberculosis (RePORT INDIA) Consortium Phase 1. He has played a critical role in the team liaising between Indian and U.S. sites, coordinating with Indian authorities and investigators, and in general performing vital high-level functions.
