U.S. Co-Hub

The U.S. Co-Hub is housed at JHU in Baltimore, where the U.S. Chair oversees the Program Manager, Communications Specialist, and Finance Manager. The U.S. Co-Hub is dedicated to supporting the India Co-Hub, coordinating activities across U.S. participating institutions, as well as liaising with NIH/DAIDS and CRDF Global.

Amita Gupta

Principle Investigator

Amita Gupta, MD, MHS, a Professor of Medicine and Public Health, Deputy Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Clinical Global Health Education (CCGHE) and Faculty co-Chair of the Johns Hopkins India Institute. She specializes in international public health, clinical research, and education in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), and antimicrobial-resistant infections. Since 2003, her work has focused primarily on India, where she leads several Indo-U.S. research collaborations. Dr. Gupta is the U.S. Chair for the RePORT India consortium.

Gabriela Smit

Gabriela Smit

Finance Manager, USA

Ms. Smit is an financial analyst with more than 2 decades of experience in finance and accounting and more than a decade of experience at Johns Hopkins University, where she has developed and managed federal and non-federal grants and contracts. At the Johns Hopkins Center for Clinical Global Health Education (CCGHE), she manages all financial activities for JHU-India research collaborations. Ms. Smit is the U.S. financial point of contact on the RePORT India Coordinating Hub (5% effort).

Molly Bowen

Molly Bowen

Communications Specialist, USA

Ms. Bowen is an experienced communications professional with more than 20 years in infectious diseases communications. She develops strategy to promote research, engage audiences, inform the public, and enhance visibility, and she devises plans for communications implementation, oversight, and evaluation. As part of the RePORT India Coordinating Hub, Ms. Bowen designs and develops the annual conference book and contributes to the consortium’s communication activities (7% effort).

Benji Riggan

Benji Riggan

Senior Research Assistant

Benji Riggan joined the Johns Hopkins Center for Infectious Diseases India (CIDI) in February 2023 as a Senior Research Assistant. He has about 10 years of cumulative clinical and community programs experience, most recently on the emergency medicine research team at Johns Hopkins University. In this capacity, he managed the emergency room HIV and HCV testing and counselling programs at both Johns Hopkins Hospital and Bayview Medical Center. Benji’s current role as Sr. Research Assistant for the RePORT India Consortium includes knowledge management for media/publications/and grant sub-studies as part of the RePORT Coordinating Hub. Benji is based in Baltimore, MD and finishing his Masters of Liberal Arts at Johns Hopkins University AAP.
