Sonali Sarkar

Dr. Sarkar is Additional Professor and Head of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine in JIPMER, Pondicherry, an Institute of National Importance in India. Her primary research interest is ‘TB epidemiology in India with a focus on community-based studies. Her researches on TB include the alcohol use disorders, tobacco use and the treatment outcome among pulmonary TB patients in Pondicherry. She has guided 15 postgraduate students and acted as a mentor for undergraduate research. A guide 3 PhD scholars, she is also the site principal investigator for RO1 grants for projects titled “Impact of Pregnancy on Tuberculosis” and “Predictors of Resistance Emergence Evaluation in Multidrug Resistant-Tuberculosis Patients on Treatment” (PREEMPT) and also for four other supplemental projects, which include studies on barriers to TB care in India, malnutrition and Fe-deficiency among TB patients, which received grants from CRDF. She is the India Chair for the 2nd phase of RePORT India.
